It's also my understanding that another advantage LED has over HID lights are that LED lights are closer to color temparature to natural (sunlight) light.

On a normal car like a rx350 or escalade, that might not matter but on a hybrid where you can drive in "stealth" mode (engine off and running only on electric motors) until your battery draws down to a low level, it helps prolong your "stealth" mode driving.Īs far as brightness/lumens, it's my understanding that HID lights are brighter (produce more lumens) than LED and that's why on HID equipped cars, you'll only see one HID light active for each housing on the low beams whereas on LED lights, you'll see multiple LED lights active to achieve the same brightness/lumens. i have a friend who runs only hids in his high beams and normal xenon halogen for low beams.īesides the LED light looking cool and being one of the first on the block to have them, one of their advantages over the HID lights are the fact that they draw less electricity. Hids in highbeams is bad only if you use the flash function a lot. My only fear is, that the parabole/the galvanisation will be destroyed by the heat. so the result will not be such a crap as the others. Well, in some years after LED come a laser technology.Ībout mounting: there are hid kits on the market, which centrates the hot point of the bulb exactly to the point, where the filament of halogen bulb is. lets remind that from the goverment that every light more than 2000 lumens you need to be automatically adjusted.Īnother great thing is, that one of the light bulb producers is going to produce HID bulb with electronic ballast included. the latest news are, that instead of 35W light bulbs there will be 25W instead -> less than 2000 lumens. So until now the best power/price winner is HID. Other problem: the smaller the light source is (just compare the filament to the size of LED chip), the more precise should be the reflector made. that means that customers cannot change it themselves. cooler needs to be very precisely centrated to the parabole. usually there is no possibility to change only LED, because it is glued on the cooler.

btw, led after a few years fade out and become a bit yellow. The technology of led is not really good now. In other way, they usually needs to be active cooled with the fan. The big problem of LED is cooling and therefore a bigg mass of cooler, which on the jumps with the car is moving and you can imagine what happends with the light beam. i was working on a full headlamp project for 2 different car producers. There are already a full LED headlamp cars. My Integra had it for 3 years and then a kit for 3 years with the retrofit not have any issues while the bulbs were replaced 4 times with the kit. My Accord had retrofits for over 6 years without any issues. I've had my retrofit in my Rav4 for 5 years and not an issue. All retrofitted bulbs are subject to contaminants that causes them to break and in most cases they break within 2 years. If you don't believe me, just go do any search on any HID site that has two identical cars (one with HID kit and one OEM and one HID Retrofit) and you can clearly see the light bleed.ģ) HID kits are crap. In fact, check out my images and you can clearly see the difference between a kit and a HID retrofit. If anyone has an HID kit in their Rav4 in SF I'll be more than glad to set up a meet to show you the difference. As that car comes down the road, that cutoff bounces up and down and creates the "flicker" effect.Ģ) ALL HID's IN PROJECTOR BASED HEADLIGHTS NOT DESIGNED FOR HID WILL GLARE REGARDLESS IF OTHERS BLINK YOU OR NOT. The flicker effect comes from a car with OEM HID that gets their cutoff color from the cutoff plate. Again? Why do we always have this conversation?ġ) No HID kits "flicker".
